What Is Hectare?
A hectare is a unit of measurement for an area, specifically representing 10000 square meters. The word hectare comes from the Greek word ‘hekaton’ which means one hundred. Hectare is a common unit of metric system that is used to measure land and plots in many places around the world, and it is also the legal unit of measure in domains concerned with land ownership, planning and management, including law, agriculture, forestry and town planning. A hectare is bigger than acre (one hectare equal to 2.47 acres) and about two-and-a-half times the size of an average football field.
- 1 hectare = 2.471 acres
- 1 hectare = 107637 square feet
What Is Acre?
The acre is a unit of land area used in the imperial and US customary systems. It is traditionally defined as area of one chain by one furlong (66 by 660 feet), which is exactly equal to 10 square chains, 1/640 of a square mile or 43560 square feet, and approximately 4047 m2 or about 40% of a hectare.
An acre can be measured in any shape, from rectangles to circles or even hexagons. It can have any length and width so long as the total area of land is 43560 square feet. The international Committee for Weights and Measures has classified acre as a ‘non-SI unit accepted for use with the International system of units’.
- 1 acre = 43560 square feet

- 1 acre = 4840 square yards
